Reporting to the Assistant Director, Stakeholder Engagement, the Senior Media Adviser/Speech Writer proactively liaises with journalists and provides advice on effective media strategy and targeting. Research and writing of speeches, media releases, backgrounders, OpEds, Parliamentary and Ministerial responses will also be an important component of the role.
The successful candidate will be a sound analyst of media, a communicator who is able to quickly craft and deliver digestible messages from often complex information, and an inspiring and astute speech writer. The Adviser must be flexible enough to balance reactive media work with effective planning and execution of projects in a medium-term (up to three-months) context. The successful candidate must have the ability to make sound media judgments under pressure.
As a senior member of the Industry & Public Affairs Team, the Senior Media Adviser/Speech Writer will demonstrate leadership and encourage positive working behaviours by example. The Senior Media Adviser will fulfil the requirements of an APS6 as detailed in the Integrated Leadership System.
The Senior Media Adviser/Speech Writer will work collaboratively with other senior officers to ensure consistency in management of team activities and regularly report to the Assistant Director, Stakeholder Engagement; Executive Director, Industry & Public Affairs; and Chief Executive.
Suitable candidates need to demonstrate an understanding of the context in which the FWBC operates, including workplace relations, the building and construction industry, government and the functions of an independent statutory authority.
Eligibility
Australian citizenship is required for employment in FWBC.
The successful applicant must hold or obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance.
