The Fair Work Ombudsman was established by the Fair Work Act 2009. Our role is to work with employees, employers, contractors and the community to promote harmonious, productive and cooperative workplaces. We investigate workplace complaints and enforce compliance with Australia's workplace laws.
The Legal Branch at the Fair Work Ombudsman is one of the largest workplace relations legal practices in Australia. It is responsible for the provision of high level legal advice relating to Commonwealth workplace relations laws to internal stakeholders. The Group also has carriage of a significant litigation practice, commencing about 50 civil litigation proceedings each year. Most of these matters are run in-house and a few are with the assistance of external legal providers.
We are seeking a Lawyer to fill a vacancy in our Melbourne office. As a Lawyer within our Legal Branch you will provide advice that enables the Fair Work Ombudsman to fulfil our educative and compliance functions including undertaking research in relation to the interpretation of statutes and industrial instruments, case law and common law. You will also independently manage complex procedures and deliver outcomes.
