    Keeping More Of Your Wages

    Wednesday December 10, 2008

Tax can really eat into your wages, so be sure to do what you can to increase the amount of tax that will be returned to you. To begin with, make sure you file your tax return on time every year. Fines can apply for people who file a late tax return, though they are normally only applied if money is owing or if you have a poor history of filing tax returns. Getting your taxes done is a mild inconvenience for the average person, so just get it done on time to avoid losing more from your wages.

Next, whenever you buy something for work, check to see if you can claim it as a business expense. Never make assumptions about what you can claim, just check on the ATO site or consult a qualified accountant. You may find that some things are better to claim only a portion of, as the personal usage of them will be quite obvious.
