If you have generally negotiated your wages poorly in the past at your current workplace, you may need to consider finding a new place to work if your wages are to catch up. Keeping your wages low for years and then trying to get a massive pay rise to match the industry average can be quite difficult, though if you are prepared to move on, it may be worthwhile looking for an opportunity to negotiate the pay rise with your current workplace before moving to other opportunities.
