What Do Those Wages Include?
Thursday December 4, 2008
Wages as advertised in a job ad will not always be the wages that you think they are. Sometimes businesses advertise wages that include the superannuation contribution in the sum. This will mean an actual amount of take home pay that could be much lower. It can sometimes also be the case that the advertised wages include other benefits that you may use, but won't necessarily use. Your specific circumstances will dictate whether or not such an arrangement is good for you.
Another way to disguise exact wages is to suggest a likely amount of commission pay that will be paid in addition to normal wages if certain targets are met. The problem with commissions is that almost any number can be given - as long as you make sales, you get commissions, so who's to say what the limits of your pay will be? If you are sensible, you'll realise that often wages that are potentially high are just advertised due to very low basic wages.
