    Weekly Wages and Differences between Industries and Men Wages and Womens Wages

    Recent surveys have concluded that women still earn lower wages than men across all industries.

    Over recent years, the highest weekly wages for both men and women were in the Australian Capital Territory (approximately $1,376 for men and approximately $1,159 for women), while the lowest weekly wages were in Tasmania for men (approximately $1,046) and in Queensland for women (approximately $919) according to the Bureau of Statistics.

    Industry wise, mining oil and gas jobs recorded the highest weekly wages for full-time adults at $1,800 approximately for men and $1,400 approximately for women while retail jobs wages and the accommodation and restaurant sector were the lowest for full-time adults at approximately $875 for men and approximately $755 for women.

    Across all industries, women earn less in their weekly wages than men with the largest differences being in Finance jobs and insurance industry, with female earnings approximately two-thirds of male earnings (66%).

    However, it was government and defence jobs wages that were the closest between men and women with women earning approximately 91% of the wages of men.
