NSW, in particular Sydney, is notoriously expensive to live, yet is this reflected in average wages?
Over recent years, seven of the ten Statistical Local Areas (SLAs) across Australia with the highest average wage and salary incomes were located in New South Wales.
In particular, they were Mosman, Woollahra, Hunter's Hill, Ku-ring-gai and North Sydney had the highest average incomes from wages and salaries in Australia.
Lane Cove and Willoughby, also located in New South Wales were ranked seventh and eighth respectively. Those with the highest wages income typically recorded almost double that of the state average.
The average weekly ordinary time earnings (commonly referred to as AWOTE) for full-time adult employees showed a 56% increase in wages from May 1997 to May 2007 in men's wages from $741 to $1,158.
Meanwhile, full-time adult female employees it increased from $620 to $968, also 56%, across the same period of time.
In 2008, the Bureau of Statistics announced that the average male wage in Australia is $62,556 per annum while the average female wage in Australia is A$52,520 per annum.
