You may be losing more of your wages to taxes than is necessary if you do not look for expenditure that you may claim. Some people just cannot be bothered to keep receipts and to research what they may claim. They then complain about the amount of tax they pay, when with little effort they could reclaim a large amount of their wages by simply knowing what may be claimed as a business expense.
In terms of what can be claimed, it will depend on your occupation as well as laws and regulations governing taxation. For example, if you work in an outdoors environment, you may be able to claim sun protection that you purchase. Be sure to keep the receipts for those purchases for your records, as if the ATO investigates your claims, you will need to prove that you made those purchases if you are claiming above $300 overall.
There is no need to lose more of your wages to tax than you have to. A little bit of effort can save you a lot if you find out what you can do to pay less in tax.
