Average Australian Wages in 2008

The average Australian wages in 2008 was $89,845 with the highest earners being in the Mining, Oil and Gas industry.
The average Australian wages rose steadily over 2008, despite the current economic climate, with January 2008 showing an average wages level of $79,000 rising to $92,000 in December 2008. There was a slight decline in February 2008 to $78,000 but this was recovered quickly in March and continued to climb.
The top ten industry earners for wages were as follows:
1. Mining, Oil and Gas
2. Executive
3. Construction, Building and Architecture
4. Engineering
5. IT and Telecommunications
6. Scientific
7. Banking and Financial Services
8. Human Resources and Recruitment
9. Sales
10. Marketing
Mining, Oil and Gas average wages $143,259 with Executive jobs wages at $124,404, Construction, Building and Architecture wages at $118,248, Engineering wages at $115,176 and IT and Telecommunications average wages at $95,365 rounding out the top five.
