Jobs ads and understanding advertised wages
Wednesday April 22, 2009
The difference between what wages are advertised on a jobs ad and what you will actually receive in your pay packet can be significant, depending on the industry the jobs are within. Sometimes it can be simply a matter that the employer has included the superannuation contribution in the figure. This will mean that the actual monetary wages amount taken home every payday will be significantly lower than what you may expect.
It is important to discuss these factors of the wages when in a job interview, along with other factors that may have contributed to the overall sum of wages advertised for the jobs. This may include other benefits associated with jobs which should also be discussed.
Another factor to watch when assessing an advertised jobs wages is if a commission payment is involved and whether there is a base rate. Some sales jobs will show projected wages earnings based on the success of the jobs applicants sales ability. This does not necessarily mean that the employee will be taking home that amount every week. Therefore it is important to fully understand what is expected from jobs with commission as a factor to know if you will earning low basic wages.
