Jobs advertisements in NSW have surged despite it being the festive season as Sydney employers and businesses try to restaff their businesses that were downsized over previous years.
Olivier recruitment group figures that were supplied to the Herald have shown that NSW jobs ads have risen thanks to Sydney employers asking for applicants across most industries. In fact, the last two months of 2009 saw an increase of 9.8 per cent in the number of jobs ads which has surprised industry experts as this was during the interest rate increases by the Reserve Bank.
On a state and territory basis, NSW is reporting some of the strongest results along with Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania who are all moving to increase the number of their jobs ads, according to director of the group, Robert Olivier. However, it seems that Queensland and South Australia are actually declining in the number of jobs ads, resulting in the national job advertising figure only rising by 0.5 per cent. The strength of the NSW jobs market has led to predictions that the NSW unemployment rate will soon slip back below 6 per cent in next week figures release.
